OVERVIEW
The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System® is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. USGBC's members, representing every sector of the building industry, developed and continue to refine LEED. 
LEED was created to:

• define "green building" by establishing a common standard of measurement
• promote integrated, whole-building design practices
• recognize environmental leadership in the building industry
• stimulate green competition
• raise consumer awareness of green building benefits
• transform the building market

LEED provides a complete framework for assessing building performance and meeting sustainability goals. Based on well-founded scientific standards, LEED emphasizes state of the art strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. LEED recognizes achievements and promotes expertise in green building through a comprehensive system offering project certification, professional accreditation, training and practical resources.

FUSION QUALIFICATIONS
Fusion takes the responsibility on every project we deliver to maximize a wide variety of solutions for the client. Obviously economics, public and social issues, architectural preference and the reality of the client program drive the final solution. Fusion’s expertise includes the management of sustainable “green” design, sustainable construction and LEED certification through the US Green Building Council.

Fusion has the tools, knowledge and experience to provide maximum benefit at the best possible cost. Our design team always emphasizes best practice in finding the solutions. Many of Fusion’s existing practices are recognized as both "green" friendly and lean construction, including methods used for field construction and our waste and recycling management programs.  Building siting/layouts, MEP systems, products and materials specified are always considered based on what will provide the client with the best cost long term as well as first in value.

OBJECTIVE
On any project, economics, public and social issues, architectural preference and the reality of the client program drive the final solution, but often there are other pieces that can make the program more complete. Fusion takes the responsibility on every project we deliver to ensure clients are offered a wide variety of solutions that will meet their needs and goals. In today’s world, many owners are interested in the concept of “green” design/construction or LEED certification. As a full-service real estate, design-build and construction firm, we have unique capabilities to control multiple aspects of a sustainable project, including design, buyout, integrated estimating, documentation and completion. Our versatility enables us to be involved in much more than just one project facet and to create a successful outcome for everyone involved.
Being environmentally responsible is a best practice our design team implements on all projects, whether or not LEED certification is pursued. When designing building layouts and mechanical systems or specifying products and materials, Fusion considers the best long-term costs and value for the client. With our tools, knowledge and experience, Fusion is able to provide clients with the maximum benefit at the best possible cost. In the field, many of our regular practices are recognized as “green” friendly, such as how we sort construction waste and recycle. Ultimately, the commitment to GO GREEN on a project or to pursue LEED certification must be a collaborative process between the owner, community and the design-builder. All goals, including cost, must be weighed carefully before initiating the process.

As we have built our experience with green buildings, Fusion has developed a carefully planned system of design and cost assistance between the owner and the design team. Our buyout approach clearly identifies to all bid parties the specific LEED or sustainable approaches to be implemented on a project-by-project basis. Before the bid package is awarded, we capture the identifiable cost premiums for LEED and evaluate any additional costs with the owner.

In order to assure all green policies are followed on a LEED project, all of our core project team members have received the LEED Accredited Professional designation.  All staff members are expected to comply with the Green Building practices at all times, and all LEED job sites are monitored at every level of the organization for conformance.
